3 Ways to Wear: Striped Skirt

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

Hi Friends!

As you probably know by now, I love stripes!  So it shouldn't come as a surprise that I bought this fun skirt from J. Crew Factory recently.  The skirt is actually white (or almost ivory) and navy but it looks so close to black that I styled it with black too.  Who cares, right? :) I love adding pops of color with it like my yellow accessories and pink top.

I think this style runs slightly big so you could probably order one size down.  I would have done that but they were sold out so I just grabbed my normal size.  Scroll down for links and details for the three outfits shown above.

Make it a great day!

What I'm Learning From My Boy

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

I have to admit this is not where I planned on taking this post today.  I was going to share my favorite health & fitness apps and totally challenge you to get your butts into gear.  However, in light of everything going on I just wasn't feeling it.  Workout Wednesday will return some day, just not today.

If you will, allow me to digress on this Wednesday to talk about my boy.

My sweet, energetic, dirt-loving little boy.

I want to make sure that my blog isn't only a place to share my favorite things, inspire your daily outfits, and make you laugh but that it's also a place for me to document my life.  Time passes so quickly and I want to remember every little detail, especially the ones with Graham.  So without further ado, here are some things I'm learning from my 14 month-old.

1) Life is best lived dirty.
There is nothing like seeing Graham's face when he has a hand full of sand, dirt, mulch or a combination of all three.  There's no use fighting it (not that I ever really did), he's a boy and he's going to get dirty.  Heck, I guess he gets it honest - I played outside in the dirt all the time growing up.  My favorite toy was my ant farm.  I was made to be a momma to a boy!  I had just forgotten how fun it can be to let go and get dirty!

2) Silence can be terrifying.
My best friend Emily recently told me that she was going to buy Graham a kazoo but she thought I'd kill her.  On the contrary, I like the noise!  The noise means Graham is busy playing with something he should be playing with (most of the time) and not trying to climb out of the playpen.  Bring on the musical instruments, work benches, and noisy books!

3) Temper tantrums are quite funny.
Mom of the year right here.  Yes, I have to force myself not to laugh when Graham goes into his full-blown legs-flailing, head thrown-back fits.  He can just be so dramatic sometimes and I know the minute I bring out an apple (he is obsessed with eating apples) he will straighten right up.  Future Academy Award winner, perhaps?

4) I can do almost everything with one hand.
Who else has mastered the art of holding your child while using the restroom because the thought of him/her walking around a public bathroom gives you nightmares?  Yep, me too.

5) Toddlers can have rhythm.
I mean I'm not trying to brag but my son has rhythm.  I like to think he got it from his momma but Josh is typically the one rapping to him so I can't take all the credit.

    6) The best things in life truly are free.
There's no better feeling than when Graham falls asleep on my shoulder or runs to me when I pick him up from the nursery.  No amount of money could replace the joy I feel from my boy.  I love him so much and cherish each day we have together.  I look forward to learning even more from him through the years.

Mommy loves you Son!

Monday Mix Up: Hair & Makeup

Monday, April 7, 2014

Happy Monday Friends!

Remember when I said I would show you my real life, makeup-free and all?  Well here you go!  I know I said last week that we would be talking about hair for the Monday Mix Up but my friend Candice asked me a couple of weeks ago for my makeup routine so I added it to our topic.

First things first I always start with a clean face and SPF 15 lotion and under eye cream.  I have been using this Aveeno lotion for more years than I can remember.  It gives you this subtle glow that I love.  I got this under eye cream from Sephora and I like it because it also has light-reflecting pigments that brighten your under eyes (which I totally need).

Next, I apply my concealers and foundation.  I found this primer & foundation from Ulta recently and I love it (especially the price)!  I was using BB cream because I like how it combines primer, lotion and foundation but I always felt like it didn't provide enough coverage or it made my face too shiny.  (Although this one is really good.)  I apply the primer foundation first then if I want extra coverage I use MAC Studio Fix Fluid.  Next I use MAC Select Cover-up under my eyes and on any red, splotchy areas.  When I need to call in reinforcement for blemishes I use this amazing palette from Make Up For Ever.  My face looks so much better already!

Next I set my foundation and concealer with MAC Studio Fix Powder.  I've tried so many different powder foundations and nothing compares.  It's my favorite.  I recently purchased this Bare Minerals bronzer and I highly recommend it (I use the color "Skinny Dip", it's the lightest).  It looks so natural and it's great for contouring.  A little goes a long way!  I apply my bronzer in a "3": along the hairline down to below the cheekbone then down to the jawline.  I also apply some along the sides of my nose.  Next I use either Nars Orgasm blush or MAC Pink Swoon.  My favorite brushes for my face are these MAC 129's.

Time for the eyes!  I know a lot of people do their eye makeup first but I'm not one of them.  I just like my face done first so I can tie everything together with my eyes. I prime my lids with this primer from Urban Decay.  I'm almost out and might try a new brand next.  I like this one but sometimes it seems a little thick.  I used to use MAC's and I loved it but became allergic (wahhhh!).  My two favorite eye shadow palettes are the Naked palette and this trio from Smashbox in Focal Point.  I can't wait to buy the Naked 3, just haven't gotten around to it yet.  I hear it's amazing!

I finish off the eyes with my liner and mascara.  My favorite eye liner is Revlon's Colorstay.  I used to wear it for game day and it always stayed on.  I also like this liquid liner from Stila for special occasions.  I am fanatical about my brows.  They really are the frame of your face and mine are thin so I like to fill them in and tame them with a brow pencil (similar here) and this Anatasia brow gel.  I finish with 2-3 coats of mascara and this one from Loreal is my new favorite.

I finish with MAC's Fix + and lipstick.  I love this matte balm from Revlon in Elusive for spring and I top it with NARS Dolce Vita.  And that's it!  I know it's kind of a long process but I think it's worth it.    Let me know if you try any of the products and how you like them.  Have a great week!

Fab Finds Friday: $50 & Under Easter Dresses

Friday, April 4, 2014

Hi Friends!

I apologize for the late post tonight.  I had multiple appointments today that I couldn't miss.  Now on to the fun!  One of my absolute favorite holidays is Easter.  First and foremost I love Easter because it's a time to celebrate our Savior who is risen and alive!  What a powerful message that is.  Not only did He die for you and me but He dwells among us.  He is there whenever you need Him.  He will never leave you.  Whew, gives me chills! :)

My second favorite thing about Easter is seeing everyone's beautiful, bright new outfits!  What's even better is getting said outfits for a steal.  That's why I searched high and low for my favorite Easter dresses for $50 & under for all of you.  I especially love this color block dress from Daisy & Dukes and it's only $36.  Now the tough part is deciding which dress to get!

Oh and I can't forget my third favorite thing about Easter - CANDY!!  I actually gave up candy for Lent so I'm super pumped for Easter to get here so I can cram those sweet tart bunnies in my mouth!

I hope you all enjoy your weekend.  If you live in Jax come see me at the yard sale at East Pointe Church on Kernan from 8-1 tomorrow.  I'll be selling lots of my clothes!

3 Ways To Wear: Maxi Dress

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Happy Hump Day (yes, I said it)!!

Ever since I received this dress in the mail I've been waiting anxiously to style it.  I knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it.  The colors are perfect for spring and it can be dressed up or down.  It's also great for you pregnant momma's and postpartum momma's.  The sizing runs a tad big in my opinion so size down.  Also, if you use the link with code "FANDF" before April 6th you will receive 20% off.  What a deal!

Details and links for all three looks are below.
Hope the rest of your week is as fabulous as you are!
