Monday Mix Up: Hair & Makeup

Monday, April 7, 2014

Happy Monday Friends!

Remember when I said I would show you my real life, makeup-free and all?  Well here you go!  I know I said last week that we would be talking about hair for the Monday Mix Up but my friend Candice asked me a couple of weeks ago for my makeup routine so I added it to our topic.

First things first I always start with a clean face and SPF 15 lotion and under eye cream.  I have been using this Aveeno lotion for more years than I can remember.  It gives you this subtle glow that I love.  I got this under eye cream from Sephora and I like it because it also has light-reflecting pigments that brighten your under eyes (which I totally need).

Next, I apply my concealers and foundation.  I found this primer & foundation from Ulta recently and I love it (especially the price)!  I was using BB cream because I like how it combines primer, lotion and foundation but I always felt like it didn't provide enough coverage or it made my face too shiny.  (Although this one is really good.)  I apply the primer foundation first then if I want extra coverage I use MAC Studio Fix Fluid.  Next I use MAC Select Cover-up under my eyes and on any red, splotchy areas.  When I need to call in reinforcement for blemishes I use this amazing palette from Make Up For Ever.  My face looks so much better already!

Next I set my foundation and concealer with MAC Studio Fix Powder.  I've tried so many different powder foundations and nothing compares.  It's my favorite.  I recently purchased this Bare Minerals bronzer and I highly recommend it (I use the color "Skinny Dip", it's the lightest).  It looks so natural and it's great for contouring.  A little goes a long way!  I apply my bronzer in a "3": along the hairline down to below the cheekbone then down to the jawline.  I also apply some along the sides of my nose.  Next I use either Nars Orgasm blush or MAC Pink Swoon.  My favorite brushes for my face are these MAC 129's.

Time for the eyes!  I know a lot of people do their eye makeup first but I'm not one of them.  I just like my face done first so I can tie everything together with my eyes. I prime my lids with this primer from Urban Decay.  I'm almost out and might try a new brand next.  I like this one but sometimes it seems a little thick.  I used to use MAC's and I loved it but became allergic (wahhhh!).  My two favorite eye shadow palettes are the Naked palette and this trio from Smashbox in Focal Point.  I can't wait to buy the Naked 3, just haven't gotten around to it yet.  I hear it's amazing!

I finish off the eyes with my liner and mascara.  My favorite eye liner is Revlon's Colorstay.  I used to wear it for game day and it always stayed on.  I also like this liquid liner from Stila for special occasions.  I am fanatical about my brows.  They really are the frame of your face and mine are thin so I like to fill them in and tame them with a brow pencil (similar here) and this Anatasia brow gel.  I finish with 2-3 coats of mascara and this one from Loreal is my new favorite.

I finish with MAC's Fix + and lipstick.  I love this matte balm from Revlon in Elusive for spring and I top it with NARS Dolce Vita.  And that's it!  I know it's kind of a long process but I think it's worth it.    Let me know if you try any of the products and how you like them.  Have a great week!

  1. Very neat to read Heather! I've picked up some great tips. What is your cleansing regimen? Do you like a specific cleanser? Since being pregnant I have had a hard time keeping my acne under control
